NY Governor Eliot Spitzer has been linked to a prostitution ring and now will likely resign in the coming days. The scandal is doubly embarrassing for Spitzer who became governor in 2006 on an uncompromsing
anti-corruption platform.
What's fascinating here is that the inauguration chart plainly shows problems. Spitzer was sworn in on January 1, 2007 at 1 pm at Albany,
NY. There is a tight one degree t-square with Moon-Mars and the nodes.
To make matters worse, chart ruler Mars is in the 8th in Scorpio (Lahiri).
It is also interesting that this chart is coming under heavy affliction
at the moment as the Sun-Uranus conjunct in Aquarius exactly conjoins
the natal Rahu (which is severly messed up by the close natal Mars
square) and transiting Venus and Mercury in early Aquarius closely
oppose the natal Saturn. The chart was running Mars dasha, Jupiter
bhukti. Although Jupiter is not in obvious difficultly natally, it's
worth noting that by transit, it falls under the influence of natal
Ketu's aspect within two degrees.

While I agree with your observations, can I take liberty to draw your attention to the placement of Venus in capricorn in his Karma sthana?
Venus in saturn's house creates people with fascination for extra-marital flings and un natural sexual urges.
And what a placement?? I am amazed at his Karma sthana which is also Rajya Sthana (House of Governance)

There is a provision in Vedic astrology to have circular charts also.
Mr. Kevill is obviously following chart form that he knows best.

I think Venus lacks an obvious affliction here that one might expect given the circumstances. Also there is a chance the swearing in took place at noon although the report I found from the NYT from that day says his speech began at 1 pm. I am assuming that his speech immediately followed him taking the oath.
As for circle vs square charts, I like to use circles, especially when transits are involved. It's just easier for me to see. I don't consider the shape of the chart one uses to be significant for the "correct" practicing of Vedic astrology, if such a term is possible given it's many-sidedness. Ultimately it's just a visual preference. I guess you could say I speak Jyotish with a Western accent.

Venus does not need to be afflicted. Venus is the afflictor.
Venus in 10th house is not a good thing to have in such circumstances.
Furthermore Rahu in 11th is another weak spot.
In my experience, natural malefics for a ruler are best in ascendent which makes the ruler powerful.
Many vedic astrologers had predicted that Mr. Singh's government in India will fall within 2 years . They had seen that ascendent had many malefics in swearing in chart.
My Guru had taught me otherwise and bless him he was always correct.

Venus is lord of 7th house, the house of opposite sex as well your enemy.

David Patterson was sworn in today ie, 17th March 2008 at 12.31 pm as the first African American and almost blind governor.
Looks like the chart portends a great future for him.With Mars in Ascendent and Jupiter in the 7th.
I will leave it to you to enlighten us with the details of what is in store for people of New York.

This changes the equation.

with 10th lord in 12th and 4th lord in 8th, the journey undertaken by Gov Patterson looks to be a sailing in very very rough weather.
A lot will depend uponhow he defends and acts in next six months.
